We develop intergenerational programs that bring together young and old to create and preserve memories of the past.

These include workshops with children, schoolchildren, and students involved in the digitization and cataloguing process, training programs for outreach staff, and support for receptions and activities – all in collaboration with public and private institutions.

Marubi Museum

The Marubi National Museum of Photography is the first photography museum in Albania. With an archive of more than 500,000 negatives covering the period from 1865 – the founding of the photography studio by Pietro Marubi, an Italian from Piacenza – to the end of the 20th century, it boasts one of the richest collections in the Balkan region.

When all private activities were prohibited during the communist era, the last descendant of the dynasty, Gege Marubi, donated the family archive to the state.

Other photographers from the city studios followed suit. In 1970, the Marubi Photo Library was established as part of the City Museum under the auspices of the Shkodër Municipality. In 2003, the Photo Library became the responsibility of the Albanian Ministry of Culture.

On May 9, 2016, the National Museum of Photography in Marubi opened, with the Photo Library collection as its centerpiece. The new museum, one of Albania's largest cultural sites and a significant landmark of Albanian culture, documents over a century of the country's history by bringing important moments, people, and events to light.
