South of the Limes, the Neckar-Alb-Aare Roman Road connects ancient sights in Baden-Württemberg and Switzerland along historically documented, ancient long-distance routes.

Every year, diverse and varied offerings attract history enthusiasts of all ages to a wide variety of events held in museums, open-air sites, and at a variety of monuments.

Festivals, guided tours, and family activities: Annual Highlights on the Neckar-Alb-Aare Roman Road

In addition to archaeological tours of well-known and hidden ancient remains, there are once again Roman festivals and family events, children's tours, and archaeological hikes. For example, every Sunday there are Family Sundays in Vindonissa in the canton of Aargau: all year round at the Vindonissa Museum in Brugg, and from the start of the season on April 1st, also at the Vindonissa Legionary Trail in Windisch. A guided tour of the Brandsteig in Aichhalden-Rötenberg, a new location on the Roman road since last year, is part of the program.

A temple complex once stood there on a pass, which was only identified a few years ago through geophysical surveys. On May 24-25, the "Society Pro Iuliomago" will celebrate its 50th anniversary with a large Roman festival at the Schleitheim Thermal Baths Museum (Canton of Schaffhausen).

The Legio VIII Augusta invites visitors to its workshop in Pliezhausen on July 6 for an event day. Under the motto "Roman Legionaries - Builders and Destroyers," the Legio VIII Augusta will showcase both the military and construction side of the Roman army, which had to perform extensive tasks, such as road construction. At the biennial Hüfingen Roman Festival on September 27-28, the fascination of Roman antiquity can be experienced at the original site of the Roman baths, now complemented by a journey through time through other important eras. Traditionally, on the second weekend in October, the Hechingen-Stein Open-Air Museum once again hosts "Romans by Torchlight." A market and encampment with groups from all over Europe provide the setting for a comprehensive program, and on Saturday night, flaming arrows will illuminate the night sky as Romans, Alemanni, and Celts battle it out. These and many other events bring history to life.

Guided Tour of the Engen-Bargen Estate

A guided tour of the grounds of Engen-Bargen begins on Friday, April 4, at 4 p.m. Deep in the forests of the Hegau region, the ruins of a Roman estate are hidden beneath massive mounds of rubble. Who lived here and for how long? What was everyday life like in Roman times? And when was the estate rediscovered? Armin Höfler will answer these and much more, as always, competently and entertainingly.

Opening Ceremony at the Vindonissa Legionary Trail

On April 6, the Vindonissa Legionary Trail kicks off its season with an opening ceremony. The program includes attractions themed "Children in the Legion Camp."

Guided Tour of Waldmössingen Fort

On April 13 at 3 p.m., former excavation director Thomas Schlipf will take visitors on a journey back in time to when a Roman military camp and fort village were located at the Waldmössingen fort site.
