Experience the north of Germany with the B-Turtle

Left and right along the dikes of the Elbe river or Buten or Binnen ... as people usually say in Northern Germany if you enjoy a perfect bike ride with BTurtle for a long weekend within the dyke lines (directly at the riverside) or outside of them.

This three-day bike tour takes you from Hamburg via Blankenese via the Haseldorfer march to Glückstadt. Our thanks are going to Ines from "Camp Dich Frei", who presented and prepared this tour for us. From Glückstadt it goes by ferry over to Wischhafen. Orchards, the typical old country farmhouses and cozy rest stops characterize this side of Elbe river.

Start of this BTurtle tour is the Hamburg Central Train Station. After a short briefing by Ines and the takeover of the B-Turtle, it leads to the just a few minutes away Harbor City. In the morning you can admire the beautiful atmosphere, the Elphi and maybe even a cruise ship in the morning, without getting lost in the tourist mass.

Along the Elbe to the jetties

Continue along the Elbe to the Landungsbrücken, where you should make a short detour through the old Elbtunnel. Then fish market and museum harbor lure. Now you traveling along the Elbchaussee direction Blankenese, beautiful little bays and cafes invite you to linger. But we want to continue towards Wedel, always along the dike where it is emptier and quieter. Sheep are often the only companions. Our tip, rather drive behind the dike, here the way just is better and the good views of the Elbe still follow, this is promised! It leads through beautiful nature reserves, with many opportunities to admire nature and wildlife.

The next correct place is Kolmar, touristically developed but still small and comfortable. If you have not found the right place in the many restaurants, you will find them here. From here it is only a stone's throw to Glückstadt. A beautiful old town and of course the ferry over to the other Elbe side lures.

Once the Elbe is crossed, you are on the way back.

With Westwind there is even a tailwind and the route to Stade is done quickly. This small Hanseatic city impresses with its medieval flair and is the gateway to the old country. This is one of the largest fruit-growing areas in Europe and offers great landscapes and very delicious rest stops between spring and autumn. In addition, some swimming spots and great views of the boat traffic on the Elbe lure on the route again. Shortly before Finkenwerder, the long-range Airbus site has to be bypassed before returning to the jetties by ferry. A grand finale, because the crossing is already half a harbor cruise and offers great views of the Port of Hamburg and the Hamburg skyline.
