Way to Hamburg Camping Fair leads along the Binnenalster
- Written by Portal Editor
The Binnenalster is Hamburg's gem and is always worth a trip, whether on foot, by car or by Alster steamer, although it's actually not a lake.
We had made our way to the Caravaning Hamburg camping fair, the leisure world for campers as part of the oohh! - the leisure worlds of Hamburg Messe.
Numerous exhibitors present a large selection of new vehicles at the Hamburg Caravaning Fair and offer a wide range of information for everyone who wants to discover new worlds with a caravan or motorhome and still want to feel at home.
All well-known manufacturers and big brands present the latest models, corresponding accessories, innovative expansion solutions and attractive travel offers for beginners and camping professionals.
An exciting supporting program with various lecture stages and unusual adventure islands not only provides entertainment, but also offers interesting information, personal advice and insider tips on travel routes and the right choice of campsite at Caravaning Hamburg.
The starting point is Hamburg Central Station and on the way to the exhibition centre it should take us along the banks of the so-called Binnenalster.
Here in particular the white facades and copper-covered roofs of the buildings around the Hamburg Inner Alster offered us a very special panorama.
It is not for nothing that the area on Hamburg's Binnenalster is also called the »parlor of Hamburg«. On Jungfernstieg and Ballindamm you can shop happily (if you wish), on the new Jungfernstieg and on the Lombardsbrücke you can enjoy the great view of Hamburg City.
The Binnenalster may look like a lake, but it is the end of a 56 km long river that runs through Hamburg: the Alster!
The Binnenalster was already dammed in 1235 at today's Jungfernstieg. More or less "accidentally".
Its big sister, the Outer Alster, is directly behind the Lombardsbrücke and is the most important local recreation area for stressed city dwellers.
