Gdansk - recreational & nature reserves line the bike paths

The infrastructure projects funded by the EU in recent years have not just provided Gdansk and the surrounding area with comprehensive road and cycle routes in recent years.

In many places, the connection of recreational areas and tourist attractions on the outskirts of the city are finished or are currently on the way, as well as the connection to the Baltic Sea Cycle Route is strongly forced, which so far ends in Usedom.

The Baltic Sea Cycle Route starts in the interesting border town "Flensburg" and follows the coast of Schleswig-Holstein. It leads along the Flensburg Fjord - initially in sight of the Danish coast - to the east.

The coastal strip to "Eckernförde" is geologically characterized by the different ice ages. After leaving "Heiligenhafen" you cross a huge nature and bird sanctuary. Another highlight is the island of "Fehmarn", which is reached by a 70m high and almost one kilometer long bridge. The cycle paths on the island follow the often less paved causeways, but you move through much of the original nature.

Back over the Fehmarnsund Bridge, you then follow the numerous beach resorts of Dahme on the Timmendorfer beach to "Travemünde" almost without interruption.

The first stage is completed by "Lübeck", which is not just the home of marzipan, but also culturally a gem. For the second stage you cycle out of town and reach "Travemünde" and thus the Baltic Sea. From here, the route runs along coastal roads to the seaside resort "Boltenhagen". On small side roads the cyclist reaches the historic old town of "Wismar".

Through the Bodden landscape you cycle on a coastal stage to Stralsund, where there are many things to visit. Via the university town "Greifswald" you cycle further in direction "Wolgast" and cross the "Peenestrom" to the island "Usedom". The three royal baths "Bansin," Heringsdorf "and" Ahlbeck "are now within reach.

In a first blog article we had already reported from our tour on the Hel peninsula, which allows part of a great tour from Central Station Gdynia north to Hel Peninsula with the return to Gdynia by ferry across the Pucker bay. Absolutely worth the drive along the peninsula Hel with beautiful views over the bay. Between Jastrzębia Góra and Władysławowo, even 7 km of cobblestone pavements follow as a road surface in this part, to avoid them, just follow the road from Puck directly to Władysławowo.

Numerous protected areas are crossed or passed along their edges, here is always the focus on the fauna and flora to judge, as diverse species. Whether we have always followed the exact cycle route, should remain open, it was in any case quite simple to reach the desired destination. Sometimes it is woodland that is traversed, then again a plain almost marshland. Even the views of the bay with the sometimes impressive cliffs are unique in their nature, no wonder that even the bird world could get their refuge here. Nests in the steep slopes provide security and peace, even if the bathers frolic down.
