Marriage contract discovered - sexual slavery allowed

During excavations of Assyrian tombs near Kayseri, Turkish archaeologists have discovered one of the earliest marriage contracts ever found, dating back to about 4,000 years.

A slave for surrogacy - earliest slavery?

The marriage contract was a clay tablet with a cuneiform text. According to it, the husband was allowed to take a slave for surrogacy if the couple could not have a child independently within two years. It is emphasized that this slave girl must get the freedom after the birth of a male child.

Artifacts in the archaeological museum Istanbul

Professor Ahmet Terp from Harran University in Şanlıurfa (Turkey) is convinced that this clay tablet is the first evidence of infertility in women. The artifact was handed over to the archaeological museum of Istanbul for safekeeping.
