Professional Climber and Human Rights Activist Nasim Eshqi

For the fourth time, the European Outdoor Film Tour, together with Defender, is presenting the 21st Century Adventurer Award, endowed with 20,000 euros. This year, Jonas Deichmann will be succeeded by Iranian professional climber Nasim Eshqi.

Not only is she one of the world's top climbers, she also works tirelessly for human rights around the world. She is one of the voices of the women's rights movement in Iran and her political commitment ultimately forced her into exile. The courage to give everything in a sport like climbing is one thing. The other is the courage to become aware of one's social importance, to step out of the field of sport and into the center of society and to no longer risk one's life just for oneself, but for an entire section of the population, for every woman in Iran and in the world and for people who are denied the right to justice. This courage is inspiration and also convinced jury member Ines Papert, one of the most influential climbing athletes of the last decades:

"I give my vote [...] to the Iranian Nasim Eshqi, who, with her positioning as a climbing woman from Iran, has found a way to encourage oppressed women all over the world through sport."

Nasim Eshqi wins the 21st Century Adventurer Award 2024

The award was presented to Nasim Eshqi on June 4th as part of the Outdoor by ISPO trade fair. During the award, she gave a lecture and answered questions from both the press and the audience. The nominees for 2025 also tell stories through their achievements that deserve to be heard, that make an impression and whose social appeal and inspiration should be expressed and appreciated through this nomination.
