2nd tractor and vintage car meeting in Burgholzhausen

2nd tractor and vintage car meeting in Burgholzhausen

Aging agricultural machinery such as Schlüter, Deutz, Kramer, Porsche or Deering tractors from the 1950s and especially the legendary Lanz Bulldogs are still particularly attractive today when, for example, a threshing machine can be operated with them via a belt drive.

So the interest in the meeting in Burgholzhausen was huge, especially as there were threshing demonstrations and even helicopter flights. Particularly interesting for the numerous children in attendance, who otherwise hardly ever find out where and how the grain for their daily bread was once processed.

Burgholzhausen: Information for our readers

burgholzhausen 03Burgholzhausen lies between Weimar and Halle (Saale). State road 210 connects Burgholzhausen with Eckartsberga, federal road 87 and the surrounding area.

The town was first mentioned on January 27, 993 as Holzhuson in a document from King Otto III. From 1638 to around 1900, the estate belonged to the Marschall family.

On July 1, 2009, Burgholzhausen was incorporated into Eckartsberga. The last honorary mayor was Ellen Oberländer, who was elected in 1994.

The local history room in the former inn "Zum kalten Frosch" and the baroque village church, which was built on foundations from the late Middle Ages and was completely renovated in 1935 on the initiative of Baron Tilo von Wilmowsky, are well known (commemorative plaque on the church).

Meeting point: sports field in Burgholzhausen

burgholzhausen 02For the second time, the two founders of the tractor and vintage car meeting in Burgholzhausen, Rene Hülßner and Marko Hornbucher, invited people to the meeting on the sports field and numerous exhibitors with their vehicles accepted the invitation. Initially a spontaneous idea caused by attending classic car meetings in other places, the two tried to establish a similar event in Burgholzhausen, especially knowing that some of the barns in the local area contain real "tractor" treasures.

So, there were initial discussions with the mayor, who was to ensure that a location was available, and the local fire brigade association, which was to help with the organization and implementation of catering for the guests. And it worked. After the first, already quite successful meeting, a tractor and classic car meeting is to take place every 2 years in the future, again on August 31, 2024, which we also wanted to attend.

Tractors, motorcycles and cars in Burgholzhausen

burgholzhausen 04Even early in the morning there was a lot of hustle and bustle on the site, where the tractors, motorcycles and cars were lined up in long rows and prepared for viewing. We didn't count them, but there were unexpectedly many vehicles. From the well-known brands of tractors to the MZ and BMW motorcycles as sidecars, through the well-known Simson and Wartburg to the Trabbis in many different versions.

More exhibitors kept arriving, who were registered at a pavilion, had to sign a confirmation of participation with a few safety points to be observed and even received a certificate as proof of participation.

burgholzhausen 06Several times during our presence, the helicopter took off for sightseeing flights towards the nearby castle fortress of Eckartsberga and back to the exhibition area.

There were enough parking spaces available for the guests on the opposite site, and even for the exhibitors who had travelled from far away there was the option of spending the night in their own caravan on the specially set up camping site. All in all, a very successful event with the regionally typical food "Thuringian Bratwurst", grilled by the local fire brigade association.

Here are a few side notes:

burgholzhausen 05In order for a tractor to be registered as a vintage vehicle, it must be at least 30 years old. In addition to this minimum age, all of the model's main components must also correspond to the original series condition. Visible damage or technical defects are not permitted.

The strict requirements for classic car status according to the Vehicle Registration Ordinance (FZV) require that the vehicle remains largely in its original condition. Only limited modifications are permitted, such as restorations with original parts.

Average used old tractors from the 1950s and 1960s made by Fahr, Deutz, Fendt, Güldner, Hanomag or Lanz currently cost around 2,500 to 3,000 euros in usable (but unrestored) condition. Porsche tractors are rarely available for less than 10,000 euros.
