St. Nicholas Church Rostock - Rostock Bosai Days 2024

St. Nicholas Church Rostock - Rostock Bosai Days 2024

It is often just coincidences that cross our path when we are researching interesting events for new blog articles, which also applies to the Bonsai Days in Rostock's St. Nicholas Church.

Having always been a fan of these miniature versions of stately trees, we were more than a little surprised to experience this exhibition with a guided tour and a demonstration of how to create a bonsai during our visit to Rostock. We also remember all too well the meeting with a bonsai fan in North Macedonia who proudly presented his miniature versions of copper beech and sycamore maple in front of his antiques shop. But now to the exhibition in Rostock, where the exhibition location alone was surprising: Rostock's St. Nicholas Church.

Rostock Bonsai Days 2024

bonsai rostock 02Even from afar you can see that Rostock's St. Nicholas Church has little to do with a sacred church building, and it's not just the extensions to the roof with their internal balconies and photovoltaic systems that are very noticeable. There are numerous apartments here, as well as in the church tower, we have already reported on this.

The interior of the former church also serves other purposes today, this weekend for the presentation of the Rostock Bonsai Days. Numerous bonsai experts were already present and looked at the numerous new developments in bonsai design. Visitors who are visiting a bonsai exhibition for the first time will be fascinated by the variety and the multitude of living works of art.

bonsai rostock 04For 20 years now, bonsai enthusiasts from the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and from all over Germany have been showing their treasures in this context.

Be it the Japanese black pine in the somewhat capricious literary form, the Chinese juniper in the cascade form, whose trunk and shape seem to have been pressed to the ground by the harsh climate and long winter snow loads, or a gnarled pedunculate oak that presents itself very sublimely in a free, upright style, they are all always real crowd pullers.

bonsai rostock 05Bonsai means above all a happy combination of artistic expression and natural effect. The aim of bonsai art is the idealized reproduction of nature, without, however, replicating nature exactly. Many people in our country are involved in the NV Bonsai Working Group and are trying to improve their bonsai design skills. The Rostock Bonsai Days are always a small showcase of these efforts.

The bonsai show is also a meeting of all nature lovers who are thinking of perhaps dealing with the subject of bonsai in the future. Appropriate demonstrations introduce the secrets of bonsai culture during the exhibition.

bonsai rostock 06We were very happy to look at the small, living bonsai works of art and to gain exciting insights into a still quite closed Japan and its culture.
