Storm in the afternoon - after a tour of Izmir

We have just received another short interim report by email from Sylvia and Anselm, who set off from Pamucak towards Izmir in their motorhome early in the morning. They had asked for tips on parking and a city tour in Izmir, which we were of course happy to pass on.

Since the two of them wanted to continue towards Bergama later, we recommended that they first take the ferry over to Karsyaka, park there in the Bostanli parking lot and take the passenger ferry over to Konak. This ultimately saves about 65 kilometres of highway since the Bay of Izmir has to be avoided.

Short travel report from Sylvia and Anselm

Hello dear Alaturka readers,

we have now landed at Altin Camp, with a short but interesting stopover in Izmir and Bergama. Izmir was very nice, especially with the parking lot and the ferry everything worked well. There was a guarded parking lot in front of the Bostanli ferry. Great, then off to the ticket machine for the ferry to Konak. 1,- € / 3,- TL per person and trip. After a leisurely walk through the bazaar, the agora to Alsancak and along the promenade back to Konak for the return ferry trip, we unfortunately ran into a storm over there after departure. We were just able to get into the WOMO to continue our journey, then there was a storm with hail, heavy rain and the streets were flooded. The cars all drove to the edge because nothing was left due to the hail and rain, or because there was no visibility. The sky was black. It went like this until Menderes. I sent you a few photos of it. Luckily the storm moved on quickly.

The journey continued via Bergama, stop and sightseeing and to Burhaniye to Camping Altin. We've already had a nice bike ride through Ören and neighbouring villages today.

This campsite with hotel and the neighbouring coastal towns of Ören, IIskele and Ögretmenler were a highlight of our trip. The Altin campsite and hotel was built by a teacher couple from Ankara in 1963. Previously it was a cotton plantation. The large trees on this site are beautiful, offer plenty of shade and give the place a special flair. The facilities, the hotel, the restaurant/cafe and the washhouses are designed and built in a particular architectural style and can be found on a dedicated website dedicated to architecture.

The Altin family's concept since the beginning has been affordable holidays by the sea while taking ecology into account. Mrs. Altin still runs the place today with the support of her daughters. The beautifully designed restaurant overlooks the sea through oleanders and palm trees and offers delicious affordable Turkish cuisine. All in all, a beautiful place for the soul and relaxation.
