Schladminger-Tauern mountain trail with pictures from Jana

We had met Jana and her daughter Lucinka on the Lake Ohrid, had been on mountain tours for some days on the border mountains between Macedonia and Albania and finally met in Prague at her home again.

Quickly, a very close connection especially to Lucinka had developed, who despite her age, was too much motivated and full of energy to climb the mountains. We could only admire her for her energy. Reports about the tours with Jana and Lucinka will follow. Now we have got some pictures of the last mountain tour of Jana, when she could get back to the mountains to an extensive hiking tour through the southern Dachstein massif in the Schladminger Tauern together with her husband and other friends. We are happy to introduce this trail into alaturka.

Schladminger Tauern - a lovely destination for hikers and mountain climbers

b_450_450_16777215_00_images_austria_salzburg_jana-bergtour-A.JPGThe Schladminger Tauern are a group of mountains of the central eastern Alps in Austria. Together with the Radstädter Tauern, the Rottenmanner and Wölzer Tauern and the Seckauer Tauern, the Schladminger Tauern form the large group of the Niedere Tauern. This mountain range is located in the federal states of Salzburg and Styria. The highest elevation is the Hochgolling with 2,862 m above sea level.

Starting from Schladming-Rohrmoos, Jana leads us along the Schladminger Höhenweg over a breathtakingly beautiful, wild and largely untouched mountain nature in five daily stages, which is unique for its abundance of water with countless small and large lakes, waterfalls and streams. On the way there are cozy mountain huts, worthwhile peaks as intermediate climbing opportunities and breathtaking views, which are connected by well-marked hiking trails. In part, the trails follow the Zentralalpenweg 02, which makes this trail a wonderful experience.

The trail leads to the summit of the Hochwurzen (1,850 m) near the Hochwurzen hut, which can also be comfortably reached with the summit lift. Along path 60, it goes downhill to the hut saddle and through larch and stone pine forests back up to the summit of Rossfeld (1,919 m). Continuing along Route 773, the next summit is the Guschen (1,982 m). Before heading further towards Schiedeck (2,339 m), a trip to the Hochfeld (2,189 m) is recommended for ambitious mountaineers. The Schiedeck is otherwise crossed below in the direction Kampspitze, until you finally reach the Brettersee and soon after the first of two overnight accommodations: the Ignaz-Mattis-Hütte (1,986 m) above the Lower Giglachsees. Alternatively, you can also spend the night in the Giglachseehütte (1,950 m).

Further stops and overnight accommodations:

• Ursprungalm
• High Wurzhütte
• Giglachseehütte
• Ignaz Mattis Hut
• Duisitzkarhütte
• Fahrlechhütte
• Keinprechthütte
• Landawirseehütte
• Gollinghütte
• Preintalerhütte
• Waldhornalm
• Beitlahnhütte
• Rudolf-Schober hut.
Experience points on the way are dozens of mountain lakes and waterfalls, geological features such as the Klafferkessel or the Goldlacken, the summit of the Hochgolling and many more. Enjoy the pictures of the mountains.
